Use an EPUB you own or have permission to process. EpuBloom does not remove DRM or recognize text inside images.
EPUB bundles text, images, navigation, and styling into an ebook. TXT is useful when you need editable words in a text editor. Extracting text is a change of format: it is not a complete backup of the ebook.
Convert an EPUB in three steps
- Open the converter and select a file ending in .epub.
- Click “Convert to TXT.” The ebook is read and processed in your browser.
- Download the .txt file and open it in a text editor. Keep the original EPUB.
The tool uses the file extension to choose the direction. There is no need to edit the book-details form when extracting text.
What the TXT result contains
The result includes the readable book title, author, chapter headings, and body text that the parser can extract. For an English-language EPUB, title and author headers use Title: and Author:. Books whose language metadata begins with zh use Chinese header formatting.

What plain text leaves behind
- Cover images, illustrations, and other pictures.
- Fonts, colors, margins, and page layouts.
- Clickable links and a navigable table of contents.
- Table layout and other visual relationships.
Line breaks and extracted reading order can vary with the EPUB’s structure. Compare important passages and chapter order against the original instead of assuming every element has been preserved.
If conversion fails or text is missing
A DRM-protected ebook may not be readable by this tool. Image-only pages contain no ordinary text to extract, and this converter does not provide OCR. A damaged or unsupported EPUB structure can also cause errors or missing content.
Check that the original opens in an ebook reader. If it does but conversion still fails, report the browser version and error through support. Don’t post a private or copyrighted ebook in a public issue.
Can I turn the TXT back into an EPUB?
Yes. Follow the TXT to EPUB guide to prepare chapter headings, book details, and a new cover. This creates a new ebook; the original images and layout cannot be recovered from the text alone.
